President's Message - from Spring 2008 Tornado Connections

Spring is in the air, and with that soon comes the end to another school year. I think it is appropriate that I tell you what we, as your Board of Trustees, have been doing, especially since the beginning of 2008. One of our goals with the establishment of the Educational Enrichment Fund was to provide funds for programs that are, by nature, enriching to students.

HEIGHTS instructor Dave Mowrey contacted us and then presented a plan for the production of a musical involving elementary and middle school students in Tiffin City Schools. The production of "Oklahoma" will be presented at The Ritz Theatre in April and includes students from grades 4 through 6. This is the first time that this has been done in Tiffin City Schools. The Board of Trustees voted to give them $2,000 to defray their costs.

A second enrichment request came from the art instructors in the district. They teach an art enrichment program in the summer to Tiffin City Schools middle school students.  They requested funding to buy supplies and to pay instructors for this -program. The staff must find funding  for the program each year in order to offer it.  We have many students in our art programs who are recognized each year for their outstanding art work. The Board of Directors awarded $2,000 to this program, to be offered this summer.

The principal of Tiffin Middle School, Bob Boes, contacted us to ask for funding to help sustain the STEPS program at the middle school. The STEPS program is an after school program that supports students who need help with organizational skills and study skills. The program is staffed by Tiffin Middle School Teachers. The Board of Trustees granted $1,000 to support this program.

We continue to fund the Academic Letter Breakfast, which was held on April 2 this year. We are proud to recognize TC's high achievers and their parents. We will again give $100 to each elementary school and $200 to the Middle School, so that they can, in some way, recognize their honor students as well.

It has been a busy year. We are grateful to you, our membership, for supporting our efforts to enrich and support learning in Tiffin City Schools. TCAA

From the Fall 2008 Newsletter

Fall is here and the school year is in full swing. At our August TCAA Board of Directors meeting, we welcomed two new members to our group.

Ann Koning graduated from TC in 1966. She is a recently retired educator from Sandusky County and a resident of Tiffin. Jami Hepp is a 1992 TC graduate and a member of teaching staff at Krout School. These two additions to our Board of Directors brings us to full strength. We appreciate having Ann and Jami as new members and look forward to their input and ideas.

At our last two Board of Directors meetings there has been serious discussion about our web site. In the past, the web site has been a place where reunion information has been made available, but other than that, we have not seen extensive use of the site. If you have interest in helping to develop our web site or if you would like to comment on what you would like to see in a web site for TCAA, we would love to hear from you. Phone numbers are available in this newsletter, and I would like to hear from you by e-mail as well. My e-mail address is kloubuck@yahoo.com. Of course, it does take time and expertise to manage a web site, and we are aware of that. We are always looking for volunteers!

Thanks to all TCAA members for your loyal support in 2008. Best wishes for the coming year, TCAA
