1937 - Betty L. (Lorentz) Hall

Betty L. Hall, 88, of Tiffin, died Tuesday afternoon, April 15, 2008, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

 

On July 28, 1919, she was born in Tiffin, to Louis C. and Alice M. (Dewitt) Lorentz.  She married Tonnie A. Hoyle who preceded her in death in 1968.  In 1974, she married Richard W. Hall who preceded her in death December 13, 2003. 

Betty was a 1937 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and a long time employee of National Machinery. 

 


 

1933 - Edith H (Harding) Whitaker

Edith H Whitaker passed away gracefully at her home in Salt Lake City, UT on May 23, 2008.  Edith was born December 22, 1915in Tiffin, Ohio. Daughter of Archie and Gertrude Harding. She was a 1933 graduate of Columbian High School, Fairview Park Hospital School of Nursing in Cleveland, OH.  She married Dr. E.G. Whitaker in 1937.  He preceded her in death.

 

 


1943 - Ruth M (Ruehle) Crow

Ruth M Crow , 82, of Mukilteo, WA passed away peacefully with family at her side in Everett, WA on June 30, 2008.  She was born October 16, 1925 in Bellevue, OH, and raised in Tiffin, OH. Ruth graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School and attended Bowling Green State University.  She then enrolled in Nurse's Training Program at Cleveland's Mt. Sinai Hospital, graduating in 1947.  She was a Registered Nurse first in Ohio and later in Virginia and Connecticut, preferring assignments in surgery.

 

 


1939 - Joan Rosenthal Coulter

Joan Rosenthal Coulter, 87, residing in Sandusky and formerly of Milan, died early Saturday morning, July 19, 2008 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, following a brief illness.

She was born, Feb. 2, 1921, in Tiffin and was a graduate of Columbian High School. She attended Denison University in Granville and Tiffin University in Tiffin. She was a veteran of U.S. Navy WAVES and graduated from Aviation Machinist Mate School in Norman, Okla.

 

 


1961 - Larry D Stephens

Larry D. Stephens, 64, of 130 E. Davis St., Tiffin, died at 12:29 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2008, at his residence.

Larry was born, Sept. 15, 1943, in Wilmington, N.C., to the late Butler Robert and Betty Mae (Fulton) Stephens. He married Sue (Zoeller) at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin, Feb. 23, 1963. She survives.

 

 

 


1936 - Rose Marie (Fraley) Stritt

Rose Marie Stritt, 90, of Cherry Avenue, Tiffin, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born Aug. 29, 1917, in Tiffin, to Harold Sr. and Marie (Kraft) Fraley. On June 21, 1941, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, she married John A. Stritt, and he survives.

 

 

 


1972 - Mary E (Blust) Steinmetz

Mary E. Steinmetz, 54, of Tiffin, died Saturday morning, July 26, 2008, at her residence....Jan. 11, 1954, she was born in Tiffin, to George J. and Helen E. "Betty" (Myers) Blust....Mary was a 1972 graduate of Columbian High School and a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Robert Clark Campbell, 93, formerly of 298 W. Market St., Tiffin, died at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin....Robert was also a 1932 graduate of Columbian High School.

Robert Glick died August 22, 2008 at the Ohio Veteran's Home, Sandusky, OH. Robert was a 1934 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.


1940 -Barbara (Lee) Main

Barbara Alice Lee Main, age 86, of 524-B Autumnwood Drive, Tiffin, and former Republic resident, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 2, 2008, at her home....Mrs. Main was active in politics as precinct committee woman, was a member of the Board of Elections and served as central committee woman for a number of years. She attended Tiffin public schools and was a 1940 graduate of Columbian High School.

 

 

 


1936 - Paul J. Buskirk

Paul J. Buskirk, 90, Tiffin, died 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at the Ruffing Family Care Center in Tiffin. Paul was a lifetime farmer and attended a one-room school in Pleasant Township for eight years. He graduated from Columbian High School, class of 1936, and the Ohio State University June 1, 1941.


1940 - Virginia (Grover) LaFontaine

Virginia LaFontaine, 87, of Tiffin, died Thursday evening, Sept. 18, 2008, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.....Virginia was a 1940 graduate of Columbian High School, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society and Legion of Mary. She worked as a winder at GE for 38 years, until the Tiffin plant closed, serving as a union officer and president of the Quarter Century Club. She was a member of New Life Heart Club and Gray Ladies at Mercy Hospital.


1967 - Richard E. Wilkinson

Richard E. Wilkinson, 59, formerly of Tiffin, died Friday afternoon, Sept. 19, 2008, at Altoona Regional Health System in Altoona, Pa, after a brief illness.


1953 - Charles "Tim" Beitel

Word has been received of the death of TIM BEITEL, 73, of Tumacacori, Ariz., who lost his brave fight against cancer Sept. 25, 2008. He was a 1953 graduate of Columbian High School, GE Apprentice School and Purdue University. Tim was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and after he was honorably discharged, he went back to work for GE in Bloomington, Ill. He was transferred to Rhode Island as an assistant manager for GE and then went to Nogales, Mexico, as a plant manager for the company until he retired. Tim was a member and paramedic for Tubac and Rio Rico, Ariz., Search and Rescue teams. Survivors include his wife, Carmelita, whom he married Dec. 27, 1995; a son, Chip Beitel of McKinney, Texas; four grandchildren; two brothers, Bob Beitel of Lake Wylie, S.C., and Ed Beitel of Sterling Heights, Mich.; two sisters, Roxie Shaull and Lois Burgh, both of Tiffin; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Harry and Bernice Beitel; and a son, Matthew Beitel. There is a memorial service today, Oct. 4, 2008, at Rio Rico, Ariz., Fire Station District 2. 1953 - Jim Kirchner

James U. Kirchner, 73, of Schonhardt St., Tiffin, died at 1:10 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008, at his residence...In 1956, he married Thelma (Wyrich) at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York, and she survives...James attended Calvert High School and graduated from Columbian High School in 1953. He was a member of the United States Marines, serving from 1953 to 1961. In 1993, James retired from General Electric as a supervisor, after 33 years of service.

 

 

 


1943 - Lois (Alford) Cromley

Word has been received that Lois Cromley, formerly of Tiffin, passed away Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Hospice of Dayton. She was born March 17, 1925, in Detroit, Mich., to the late Harris and Elizabeth Alford.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Samuel Cromley; two daughters, Leslie Phillips of Missouri and Laurel (Tom) Suttmiller of Dayton; four granddaughters; a sister-in-law; and a nephew.She was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Hrabko.She donated her body to the Wright State University School of Medicine.

1953 - Daniel D. Stumpp

Daniel D. Stumpp, 75, of 7 Beechwood Dr., Apt. 203, Tiffin, formerly of Bloomville, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 21, 2008, at Ruffing Family Care Center of Bloomville.

Mr. Stumpp was a former member of the Tiffin and Attica Eagles, the Bloomville Lions Club, an honorary life member of the Caulfield American Legion Post 434-Bloomville and a former member of the Bloomville Volunteer Fire Department. He worked for 51 years at the Bloomville Gazette as a printer, retiring in 2006. Daniel was a 1953 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 


1941 - Clara (Moore) Runion

Clara B. Runion, 85, of 95 Elwood St., Tiffin, died at 12:40 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008, at St. Francis Nursing Home in Tiffin.

Clara was born July 29, 1923, in Tiffin, to Herbert Hicks and Hazel Pearl (Souers) Moore. She married Howard J. Wolff, and he preceded her in death. She later married Richard Runion, and he survives in Tiffin.

Clara was a 1941 graduate of Columbian High School.

 


1939 - Edward W Flechtner Jr.

Edward W. "Bud" Flechtner Jr., 88, of Tiffin, died Tuesday Oct. 28, 2008, in the emergency room at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

On Feb. 24, 1920, in Seneca County, he was born to Edward W. and Dais Mae (Myler) Flechtner Sr. He married Norma Williams Jan. 4, 1954. Survivors include his wife, Norma of 54 years, and many nieces and nephews.

Edward was a member of the 1939 class of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 


1957 - John R Johnson

JOHNSON - John R., 69, died Tuesday, October 28, after a 4 month battle with pancreatic cancer. John grew up in Ohio and graduated from Tiffin Columbian in 1957 in Tiffin, OH. He graduated from the University of Miami, Miami, FL, in 1961. While there, he was president of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta, and elected to the Iron Arrow Society, the university's highest campus life honor. John joined the Marine Corps in 1961 and was honorably discharged in 1966 with the rank of Captain. The Corps was a defining time in his life and his fellow officers were friends for life. He moved to St. Louis to begin his career in sales and also there, met and married Ann, his wife of 40 years. Their son Eric was born in St. Louis and the family moved to Tulsa in 1974. John worked for Collegiate Products and for Works and Lentz. For the past 13 years he was Sr. V.P. of TMA Systems, Inc. John loved being Eric's dad. He coached youth soccer for 8 years and hiked the Boy Scouts down the Grand Canyon several times. He was also an avid runner, completing 15 marathons. Runners called John "Dr. Death" because he just kept going as others dropped out with injuries. He told them, 'Just run through it!" or, "No pain, no gain!" Active in 2 large Presbyterian congregations in Tulsa, John was ordained a Deacon and an Elder. During the past 16 years at First Presbyterian Church, he served on the Session, participated in 3 mission trips to Mexico, lead a team of ushers, and was active in Bible Study. He also served on the board of Camp Loughridge, was a member of the Tulsa Sports commission, and belonged to the Rotary Club of Tulsa. John lived his life with gusto, loving people all around him and being loved in return. He was a genuinely good guy and his tremendous enthusiasm for life will be missed by many friends at work, church, Rotary, and on the running trails. John was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Johnson. He is survived by: his wife, Ann; his son, Eric, daughter-in-law, Marty, and granddaughters, Meredith and Lauren; his father, Ross Johnson; and his brother, Keith Johnson. 1941 - Loribel (Raymond) Fast

Loribel "Lorie" (Raymond) Fast, 85, of Fostoria, passed away 9:42 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008, at Toledo Hospital. Lorie graduated from Columbian High School in 1941. She continued her education with classes at Tiffin University. She was employed as office manager of the Boles-Dandurand Photography Studio in Tiffin from 1941 to 1946. Beginning in 1954, she worked with Bob in establishing his business as the first practicing certified public accountant in Tiffin and then first in Fostoria.

 

 


1948 - Jack A Burrier

Jack A. Burrier, 79, of Bellevue, passed away Monday, Nov. 3, 2008, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Tiffin, the son of Deloss and Myrta (Craig) Burrier. He retired from Sam Stein and Ford Motor Company where he worked as a mechanical engineer.

Jack was a 1948 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.


1960 - Jon T Drohen

Jon T. Drohen, 66, of Tiffin and Sarasota, Fla., died unexpectedly while on vacation Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2008, in Whitefish, Mont. Jon was born April 3, 1942, in Tiffin, to Merlin T. and Evelyn (Shellhammer) Drohen. Survivors include: his mother; a brother, James (Wanda) Drohen of Little Rock, Ark.; and two sisters, Jaynie (Gary) Eisenhart of Attica and Janet (Bob) Hunter of North Royalton.

Jon was the owner/operator of Jon's Shake Shak and Polar Bar, both in Tiffin. He was a 1960 graduate of Columbian High School. Jon also was very instrumental in starting the traditional Easter buffet for the elderly at Fort Ball Pizza Palace. Per Jon's wishes, he is to be cremated and there are to be no other services. Charles B. "Parky" Parkins, 81, of Tiffin, died Monday morning, Nov. 10, 2008, at his home. Aug. 27, 1927, he was born in Tiffin to Boyd and Leona (Shelt) Parkins. May 24, 1947, he married Florence Anderson.

Charles graduated from Columbian High School in 1945 and Tiffin Business School. He had a 35-year career in banking as a loan officer at First National Bank and Citizens Savings and Loan, retiring in 1989.

Donna Lou Haugh, 73, of Tiffin, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo, from complications of kidney disease.

1932 - Agnes A (Schenk) Zahn

Agnes Anna Zahn, 95, of Tiffin, died at 5:42 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at St. Francis Nursing Home of Tiffin.

In 1931, Agnes graduated from Columbian High School. She retired from St. Mary School cafeteria. She also worked at Starr Dry Cleaning, which she owned with her husband. 1936 - Mary E (Hill) McIntire

Mary E. McEntire, 90, of Tiffin, died Thursday evening, Nov. 13, 2008, at her home. She was born March 28, 1918, in Tiffin, to Ernest Sr. and Florence (Blackwell) Hill. On Jan. 28, 1949, she married Neal F. McEntire at Minister Church of Christ in Tiffin.

Mary was a 1936 graduate of Columbian High School. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and spending time with her grandchildren. She loved her animals, especially her cat, Stone. She was a great pie baker, enjoyed sharing them with everyone, and was always willing to help anyone.

 

 


1946 - Gloria A (Gibson) Predmore

Gloria A Predmore, 81, of Findlay, died peacefully at 6:08 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, while in the company of her son, James, and good friend, Ray Horne, at Blanchard Valley Hospital.

Gloria graduated from Columbian High School in 1946. In the 1950s, Gloria worked for Copper Tire, operating Findlay's then new dial telephone system. After leaving Cooper Tire, she went on to work for Marathon for 30 years as a data recorder.

 


1960 - James Douglas "Doug" Halcomb

James Douglas Halcomb, 67, of 5 Blaine Court, Palm Coast, Fla., and formerly of Tiffin, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Florida Hospital Fagler in Palm Coast.

He was born Jan. 14, 1941, in Whitesburg, Ky., to James and Effie (Tyree) Halcomb. In 1960, he married Sandra Wenner.

Surviving are his wife, Sandra, and a daughter, Tracy, both of Palm Coast; a son, Keith (Karen) of New Riegel; a sister, Joan Woodman, and a brother, Skip Halcomb, both of Tiffin; and two grandsons, Tyler and Shane Halcomb, both of New Riegel. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, June Barger.

Doug was a 1960 graduate of Columbian High School. He worked as a meat manager for Foodtown for 25 years. He was co-owner of D&D Market in Republic and owner of Halcomb's Cardinal in Bloomville.

During his life, he was an active member of Tiffin Moose, Bloomville Lions Club and Ponchatoula Lions Club. He enjoyed many sports, such as golf, bowling and softball. He took pleasure in playing poker and watching horse racing, as well as visiting casinos nationwide. In his later years he kept busy watching his grandson's baseball games.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home, Tiffin. 1952 - Lynn V Murray

Lynn V. Murray, 75 of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away on Wednesday Nov. 12, 2008 after a brief illness. He was the husband of Felicidad "Feli" R. Murray.
Mr. Murray was born in Tiffin, Ohio and graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School there.
He later entered the U.S.A.F. and retired after approximately 25 years of service.
Mr. Murray also worked for the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Dept. and retired after 11 years of service.
He enjoyed volunteering for various organizations and was a lover of animals. Besides his wife "Feli" he is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Damian and Donna Murray, and Edmund Murray; three grandchildren, Veronica Murray, Kimberly Blackman and Stephanie Galloway; two great-grandchildren, Cale and Zane Blackman; one sister, Juanita Rex of Tiffin, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

1940 - Mary Ellen (Groman) Weiker

Mary Ellen Weiker, 85, formerly of Clyde, died at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, at The Bellevue Hospital.

Mary was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Tiffin, to the late Theobalt "Ted" and Edith (Marsteller) Groman. She married Richard Paul Weiker Sr. in Tiffin, Aug. 4, 1942, and he preceded her in death, June 17, 1995. Mary sang with the New Gospel Heirs at local nursing homes and was a 1940 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

Michael F. Goshe, 51, of Tiffin, died at 5:25 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, 2008, at his residence. Michael was a graduate of Columbian High School; he was a carpenter and the owner of M and D Construction Services.

1945 - Harold L Shuff

Harold L. Shuff, 81, of Tiffin, died Friday evening, Dec. 5, 2008, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

On Aug. 7, 1927, he was born to Frank and Flora (Shook) Shuff in Tiffin. On Sept. 18, 1948, he married Dorothy Bare in McCutchenville. She survives in Tiffin. Harold graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School. On May 23, 1945, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving his country during World War II on the CB Main Unit 618. He retired from American Standard in 1988 after 44 years of employment as a production control manager. He was a life member of Eagles Aerie 402, life member of VFW Post 2858 and member of AMVETS Post 48. He was an avid golfer.

 

 


1962 - Dr. James D Beisner

Dr. James D. Beisner, 64, of Tiffin, died at 5:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5,2008, in the comfort of his own home.  Dr. Beisner was born Jan. 27, 1944, in Tiffin, to the late Henry D. and Alma (Michaels) Beisner. He married  Libby  (Buskirk) at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church Aug. 24, 1968, and she survives.

Dr. Beisner worked as an Optometrist in Tiffin for 30 years.  His favorite family events where the annual pit roast and chili party. Dr. Beisner was a 1962 graduate of Columbian High School and a 1969 graduate from the Ohio State University, where he played on the varsity lacrosse team.

 

 


1949 - Donald P Schrote

Donald Paul Schrote, 77, of Vancouver, Wash., and Tavares, Fla., and formerly of Tiffin, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, of congestive heart failure at Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, Wash. He was born in Tiffin June 1, 1931, the only son of the late Paul and Dorothy Corfman Schrote. Don married Mary Alice Dillon in Wichita Falls, Texas, June 16, 1951, and she survives in Tavares.

Don graduated from Columbian High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Air Force 1950-52, during the Korean War.

 

 


1960 - Robert L Hepperly

Robert L. Hepperly, formerly of Tiffin, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, at his residence in Findlay. May 4, 1942, he was born to Richard and Helen (Cooley) Hepperly, and Helen survives in Tiffin. On June 17, 1961, he married Patricia Shobe, and she also survives.

Robert graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1960, and proudly served in the United States Army at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, 1961-64. He worked for a short time at General Electric in Tiffin, and then spent nearly 30 years working for Ohio Bell Telephone Co. He began as a cable splicer, then became a foreman, and then was construction manager for Tiffin, Findlay, Fostoria and Upper Sandusky. He retired in 1995.

 

 


1969 - Ronald A Walters

Ronald A. Walters, 57, of Tiffin, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

Ronald served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a carrier for The Advertiser-Tribune. Ronald was a 1969 graduate of Tiffin Columbian.

 


1934 - Marjorie K (Kleckner) Ewald

Marjorie K. Ewald, 92, of Tiffin, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. June 19, 1916, she was born to Ralph Good and Irma (Smith) Kleckner in Painesville. Aug. 23, 1947, she married Charles Richard Ewald, and he died Aug. 13, 1988.

Marjorie attended College Hill School in Tiffin, and later graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1934. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Heidelberg College in 1938, and in 1941 she received a bachelor's degree in library science from the School of Library Science at Western Reserve University. She taught English and was a librarian.

 


1944 - Philomena (Reino) Colatruglio

Philomena "Phil" R. Colatruglio, 83, of Tiffin, died Monday morning, Dec. 29, 2008, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

Phil was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and attended Columbian High School. She was a 1944 graduate of Columbian High School.

Ray E. Porter, 90, of Wooster and formerly of Tiffin, passed away Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Tiffin, to Ben and Irene (Stephens) Porter, and graduated from Columbian High School in 1938. On Nov. 2, 1946, he married Helen Porter, who preceded him in death.

Alice May Reedy, 77, of Tiffin, died at 8:54 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center of Toledo.

Chris Dear, 46, of Concord Township, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, at Cleveland Clinic.

She was born Feb. 26, 1962, to Frank and Mary (Perkins) Nominee in Tiffin. Survivors include her husband, Bill, and a son, William, both of Concord; her father, Frank Nominee of Tiffin; and two brothers, Randy and Nick Nominee, both of Tiffin. 1938 - Claire M (Miller) Hossler

Claire M. (Miller) Hossler, 88, of Coronado Villas in Coronado, Calif., died Dec. 22, 2008. Caire was an active and vital woman, who had many accomplishments in her lifetime.

Born in Bascom Jan. 27, 1921, she was the eldest of five. Claire graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1938 and Heidelberg College and always had fun attending the reunions and catching up on old friendships. She worked as an assistant at the college for years while still living in Ohio. Later, she was an active and successful investor and always had a keen vision on the markets.

 

 


1962 - Ben R Jinks

Ben Robert Jinks, 64, of Houston, Texas, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at VA Hospital in Houston.

He was born Jan. 14, 1944, in Fostoria, to George S. and Irene Marie (Grafe) Jinks. He graduated in 1962 from Columbian High School and received his master's degree in special education from Ohio State University. He taught in the Columbus Schools system and later moved to Houston, where he later retired from teaching. He served in the U.S. Army.

 

 


1943 - Donald J Corthell

Donald James Corthell, 83, of Parkview Drive, Tiffin, died at 10:36 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

Don was a 1943 Columbian High School graduate. He served in the Navy as a sonar man in the Pacific Theater from 1943 to 1946. He retired after 40 years from Hossler Construction Company, where he worked as a project foreman and carpenter.

 

 


1974 - Emmitt Mullins Jr

Emmett Mullins Jr., 53, of Tiffin, died at 12:07 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009.

Emmett was the assistant superintendent of the water pollution control center for the city of Tiffin. He was a member of the Tiffin Moose Lodge and Eagles, and was a 1974 graduate of Columbian High School.

1963 - Frederick E "Gene" Gillig

Frederick E. "Gene" Gillig, 63, of Tiffin, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 3, 2009, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. On Aug. 19, 1945, he was born to Eugene J. "Chick" and Miriam (Dawson) Gillig in Tiffin. On Aug. 3, 1974, he married Ann Martin in Van Wert.

Gene was a 1963 graduate of Columbian High School and attended Bowling Green State University. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, the church council, a chairman of the stewardship committee; past president of the Tiffin Jaycees and former member of the Tiffin Elk Lodge 94.

 

 


1976 - Joyce E (Stuckey) Neidermier

Joyce E. Niedermier, 50, of New Washington, died Thursday evening, Feb. 5, 2009, at Med Central Hospital of Mansfield.

Joyce was born June 29, 1958, in Upper Sandusky, to F. Calvin and Marcene (Siefert) Stuckey. She married Stephen J. Niedermier Sept. 27, 1980, in New Washington, and he survives.

Joyce was assistant treasurer of Seneca East Schools and a former employee in the admissions office of Tiffin University. She was a member of Bloomville United Church of Christ. Joyce was the instructor for the Seneca-ettes, an advisor for Buckeye Central Majorettes and Victory 4-H Club, a coordinator for the Attica Fair Idol Contest and the Attica Fair Style Review and a 1976 graduate of Columbian High School.

 


1951 - Mary Lou (Dedrick) Wilson

Mary Lou Wilson, 75, of Tiffin, died unexpectedly February 8, 2009 at her residence.

Born April 4, 1933 to Charles and Eleanora (Albert) Dedrick in Tiffin. She married Robert F. Wilson on July 12, 1953. He preceded her in death on October 10, 2003. She was also preceded in death by her parents.

Mary Lou was a 1951 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and attended Heidelberg College. She was a fifty year member of St. Paulʼs United Methodist Church, where she served on the Board of Trustees, the Finance and Memorial Committees and as church secretary for 23 years.

 


1936 - Florence W (Hausenfleck) Wertz

Florence W. Wertz, 90, of Tiffin, died Sunday afternoon, Feb. 15, 2009, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

She was born May 17, 1918, to Ralph and Augusta (Johnson) Hausenfleck in Tiffin. She married Robert Wertz June 6, 1937, and he preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ and a 1936 graduate of Columbian High School.

 


1952 - Nancy C Musser

Nancy Carolyn Musser, 75, of Tiffin, died at 4:35 p.m., Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at Mercy Hospital in Tiffin.

Nancy was born November 3, 1933, in Tiffin, to the late Max Bernard and Dorothy Isabella (Dauwalter) Musser.  Survivors include her brothers, Marion Musser of Griffin, GA, Jerry Musser of Tucson, AZ.

Nancy was a 1952 graduate of Tiffin Columbian.

 


1944 - Cletus E Melick

Cletus E. Melick, 82, formerly of 545 West Market Street, Tiffin, went home to his heavenly father, at 11:25 a.m., Saturday, February 21, 2009 at the Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin.

Cletus was a 1944 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and also earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from Ohio State University. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in the Korean War.

 

 


1948 - Nancy J (McCoy) Wright

Nancy J. Wright, 79, of Aurora, CO, passed away March 5, 2009. Born Nov. 11, 1929 in Tiffin, OH. She is survived by 4 children: Lee, Mary, Peter & Timothy; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; brother: Robert McCoy. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Wright also from Tiffin, OH.

Nancy was a 1948 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 


1943 - Donald W Montz

Donald "Don" W. Montz, 83, of Tiffin, died Saturday morning, March 14, 2009, at his residence.

On December 9, 1925, he was born to Herbert and Mildred (Feagles) Montz in Melmore. He married Jean Borer April 30, 1949. She survives. Other survivors include four sons, Dennis (Carol) Montz of Toledo, James (Betty) Montz of Tiffin, Larry (LuAnn) Montz of Carey, and Brian Montz of Tiffin; two daughters, Barb (Randy) Cooper of Avon Lake and Lynn (Tim) Ardner of Tiffin; a brother, Bill Montz of Florida; seven sisters, Doris Wertz, Betty (Jerry) Rhoad, and Carolyn (Don) Wellman, all of Tiffin, and Marian Vondenberg, Helen Cline, Frances (Jerry) Garn, and Cathryn (Gene) Biller, all of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Preceding him in death are his parents and two brothers, Jim and Bob Montz.

Don graduated from Columbian High School in 1943, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943-46 in the Pacific Theatre.

 


1940 - Richard H Nye

Richard H. Nye, age 86, resident of Cleveland, TN, died Thursday, February 26, 2009, and has joined the Church Triumphant! Mr. Nye was born in Tiffin, Ohio on January 8, 1923. He married Margaret (Proffitt) Nye in Detroit, Michigan on February 25, 1950. Richard was a 1940 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie Nye and four brothers, Robert, Raymond, Charles and Eldon Nye and sisters, Marie Runion and Louise Angene.  He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret Nye, Cleveland; two sons and their families

 

 


1971 - Larry K Murphy

Larry K. Murphy, 56, of Tiffin, died Tuesday, March 17, 2009, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

He was born May 31, 1952, in Tiffin to Vernon and Norma (Smith) Murphy. On Oct. 20, 1973, he married Jan D. Mowery.

Larry was a 1971 graduate of Columbian High School and proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1972-1973.

 

 

 


1982 - Donald E Hoffman

Donald E. "Don" Hoffman, 45, of Tiffin, died Wednesday morning, April 1, 2009, at his residence. He was born Feb. 11, 1964, in Tiffin, to the Rev. James and Polly (Williams) Hoffman. Oct. 12, 2003, he married Katina Apostolou.

Don was a 1982 graduate of Columbian High School, attended Terra Technical College and was a member of First Baptist Church. Don enjoyed golfing, was a football fan and was a fan of the Ohio State University and Cleveland Indians. He owned a barbershop in Toledo. He loved spending time with his family, and his wife and daughters were his world.

 

 


1946 - Robert R Shuff

Robert R. "Bob" Shuff, 80, of Tiffin, died Sunday morning, April 5, 2009, at St. Francis Home in Tiffin. He was born Dec. 25, 1928, in Tiffin, to Frank and Flora (Shook) Shuff. He married Jean K. Strecker March 7, 1948, in Tiffin.

He is survived by his mother, Flora of Tiffin; a daughter, Anita Fleck of Fostoria; a sister, Lois Wagner of Tiffin; three grandchildren, Nathaniel, Bryana and Eric Fleck; and six great-grandchildren, Connor, Kyle, William, Selena, Victoria and Ashton. Preceding him in death were his father; his wife, Jean; a son, Chris Allen Shuff; and a brother, Harold Shuff.

Bob was a 1946 graduate of Columbian High School. He enjoyed fishing, boating, bowling, golfing, trips to the casino, and working in his yard.

 


1938 - Phyllis R Schmitz

Phyllis R. Schmitz, 90, of Tiffin, died Sunday morning, April 12, 2009 at Elmwood at the Shawhan Assisted Living in Tiffin.

On December 24, 1918 in Tiffin, she was born to Sydney and Nora (Stover) Cleveland. She married Frederick J. Schmitz on January 5, 1942.

A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a 1938 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School, she worked at the Tiffin Glass House and retired from General Electric after 26 years. She liked to golf, bowl and loved the Dallas Cowboys.

 

 


1951 - Helen R. (Ryman) Halfhill

Helen R. Halfhill, 76, of Tiffin, died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 11, 2009, at St. Rita Medical Center in Lima. Helen was born March 22, 1933, in Tiffin, to Charles and Neva (Hill) Ryman. She married Bobby Clayton Halfhill June 16, 1956, in Tiffin, and he preceded her in death March 16, 2006.

Helen was a member of First Lutheran Church in Tiffin. She was a 1951 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 

 


1941 - Marjorie M (McDonald) Kishler

Marjorie M. Kishler, 85, of Tiffin, died peacefully at her home with her husband by her side at 11:45 p.m., Friday, April 17, 2009.

Through the years Marjorie enjoyed volunteering as a Girl Scout leader, served on the PTA at Lincoln School, was a member of the Columbian High School athletic boosters, volunteered at Mercy Hospital's gift shop and was involved with Seneca County Humane society fund raisers. She also was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church the Eastern Star, and was a 1941 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 


1965 - Barbara A (Hill) Bouldrey

Barbara Ann Bouldrey, 61, of Sikeston, Mo., died Saturday, April 18, 2009, at Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston. She was born Sept. 26, 1947, in Tiffin, to Willis E. and Helen R. (Kerschner) Hill. She and the Rev. John D. Bouldrey were married Aug. 16, 1969, in Tiffin, and he survives in Sikeston.

She also is survived by a son, Stephen (Tammy) Bouldrey of Fort Lee, Va.; six brothers, John (Maryl) Hill of Winchester, Va., Mike Hill of Kansas City, Mo., Jeff (Patsy) Hill and Joe (Candie) Hill, both of Tiffin, Bill (Raquel) Hill of Centerville and Tim (Barb) Hill of Mt. Morris, Mich.; one grandson, Tim Nikolas of Ziel, Germany; one granddaughter on the way, Isabella Ann Bouldrey; two aunts, Joan Hogue of Roseville, Mich., and June Hahn of Fremont; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Barb graduated in 1965 from Columbian High School and in 1969 from Olivet Nazarene University in Kankakee, Ill., with a bachelor of arts degree in English.

 


1975 - Randy E. Feasel

Randy Eugene Feasel, 52, formerly of Tiffin, and residing in Mesa, Arizona, died Monday, April 20, 2009.

Randy was born November 4, 1956, in Tiffin, to the late Merritt H. and Evelyn (McGowan) Feasel.

Survivors include four brothers, Daniel (Lou) Feasel of Marshall, Texas, Fred (Claudia) Feasel, of Tiffin, Merritt (Deb) Feasel, Jr., of Tiffin, and Martin Feasel of Sandusky. Randy is also survived by four sisters, Karen (Robert) Crabill of Tiffin, Sharon (David) Lynn, Florence, Kentucky, Linda (Donald) Ashworth, Neosho, Missouri, and Rebecca (David Ranes) Muro, of Bradner.

Randy was a 1975 graduate of Columbian High School.

 


1943 - Marjorie (Yoder) Varah

Marjorie J. Varah passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the Fort Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Tiffin, Ohio, the daughter of the late Albert A. and Ruth (Mizen) Yoder.
Marjorie married Leonard J. Varah in Farr Chapel of the First Congregational Church in Greeley, Colo., on Aug. 21, 1959. He preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1999.

She was a graduate of Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Mrs. Varah received a master's degree from the University of Northern Colorado and certification in vision from Northern Illinois University. She was a business education teacher for many years in Michigan, Nebraska and Wisconsin. Marjorie was a 1943 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 


1991 -  David M. Feltner

David Michael Feltner, 36, of Tiffin, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 18, 2009, at his home. He was born in Sandusky March 13, 1973.

He was a 1991 graduate of Columbian High School, where he excelled in football and baseball. He graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1996 with a bachelor of science degree in journalism. He was an accomplished and gifted writer, having earned Sportswriter of the Year on three separate occasions, along with several other awards. He started his career in journalism in high school with The Advertiser-Tribune and became sports editor. He was the sports editor for the past 10 years.

 

 


1964 - Judith A (Stiles) Price

Judith Ann Price, 62, of East TR 86, Tiffin, died at 2:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2009, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by family and friends.

Judith was born Oct. 5, 1946, in Tiffin, to Owen R. and Madalyn G. (Reinbolt) Stiles. She married Rodger Price at First Baptist Church in Tiffin Feb. 19, 1967, and he survives. Judith worked as an LPN at many area nursing homes. She was a member of Christ's Church in Tiffin, the Red Hat Ladies, and enjoyed crocheting, her cats and just loved to spend time with her grandchildren. Judith was a 1964 graduate of Columbian High School.

 

 


1955 - Charles H Stuckert

Charles H. Stuckert, 72, of Miami Street, Tiffin, died Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He was born Nov. 6, 1936, in Tiffin, to Schell K. and Mary (Hostler) Stuckert. He married Burdella D. Enders June 20, 2000, in Tiffin. She survives.

Stuckert worked and retired from National Electrical Carbon in Fostoria. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Tiffin, a U.S. Army Veteran, a 1955 graduate of Columbian High School and an Ohio State, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavaliers fan.

 

 

 


1977 - Howard (Howie) Young Jr.

Howard "Howie" Young Jr., formerly of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in Cleburne, Tx. He was born April 18, 1958, in Tiffin, the son of Mary Ellen (Lenz) and Howard Young Sr.

He graduated from Columbian High School in 1977 and worked at Pettibone, Webster Manufacturing and Mohawk Supply.

Young is survived by his wife, Melanie (Johnson) Young, of Alvarado; his father, Howard "Duke" Young Sr. and Bonnie Cook, of Tiffin.

 

 


1938 - Melvin E Hoerig

Melvin E. "Mel" Hoerig, 88, of Tiffin, died Wednesday evening, May 27, 2009, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin. Melvin was born June 16, 1920, in Cleveland, to Carl and Ruth (Bish) Hoerig. He married Viola Baugher July 22, 1940. They later divorced. He then married Thelma M. Sager Dec. 27, 1979, in Las Vegas, Nev. Survivors include his wife, Thelma, a son, Mark (Peg) Hoerig; two daughters, Phyllis M. Adelsperger and Patricia J. (Hugh) Rathburn, all of Tiffin; two brothers; Herald Hoerig of Sandusky and Jim (Marilyn) Hoerig of Michigan; six grandchildren, Tami, Brad, Laura, Steve, Doug and Matthew; and six great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death, along with his parents, is a daughter, "Prudy" A. Rodgers and three brothers, Charles "Chuck," William "Pete" and Jerry Hoerig.

Mel was a 1938 graduate of Columbian High School and organized the Tornado Booster Club, serving as president for two terms.

 

 


1944 - Robert W. Oller

Robert W. Oller, 82, of Huron, passed away Thursday, June 11, 2009, at home, following a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 5, 1926, in Clyde, and grew up in Tiffin, moving to Huron in 1952, where he lived for the past 57 years. A 1944 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School, he entered the U.S. Army in December of that year and became a map maker as part of the infantry force that was preparing to invade Japan. After the war ended he spent several months in Hiroshima and Kyoto, Japan, as part of the American occupation force and played in the Army band. Upon his return to the United States he re-enrolled in Bowling Green State University, where he joined Theta Chi fraternity and graduated in 1950 with a degree in business administration. Later that year, on Oct. 21, 1950, he married Joanna Klein of Huron, whom he met at BGSU.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanna (Klein) Oller; his sons, John Oller of New York City and Rob (Jennifer) Oller of South Vienna, Ohio; his daughter, Susan (Alan) Sutton of Bainbridge, Ohio; as well as five grandchildren. Other survivors include his sister, Pat, and brother, Jim, both of Ohio.

 


1934 - Margeurite H (Hoffmann) Crosby

Marguerite H. Crosby 93, died at her home in Bradenton, Fla. April 8, 2009.

Mrs. Crosby was born March 25, 1916, in Tiffin. She was the daughter of Paul N. and Iva M. Hoffmann. Mrs. Crosby married Dr. Frank H. Crosby Sept. 13, 1941.

Mrs. Crosby is survived by two children, Carol M. Crosby of Dade City, Fla. and Paul David Crosby of Hickory, N.C.; and two grandchildren. Margeurite was a 1934 graduate of Tiffin Columbian.

Mrs. Crosby will be buried in Glenwood Cemetery, in Lockport, N.Y.

 


1935 - Lula D (Glick) Wingart

Lula D. Wingart, 92, of Tiffin, died at 3:58 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin.

Lula was born Jan. 24, 1917, in Seneca County, to the late Cecil E. and Bernice M. (Smith) Glick. She married Elwood L. Wingart in Jackson, Mich., in 1936. He preceded her in death.

Lula retired as the cafeteria manager for Hopewell-Loudon Schools. She was a member of Union United Church of Christ for more than 50 years and a member of Tiffin Glass Club and a 1935 graduate of Columbian High School.

 

 


1933 - Myron K Doncyson

Myron Kent Doncyson, 93, formerly of TR 1179, Tiffin, died at 7:42 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2009, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. He was born on July 10, 1915, in Clyde, to the late Erwin and Elizabeth (Kinney) Doncyson. Sept. 2, 1936, in Tiffin, he married Margery J. Riehm, and she died Nov. 24, 2001.

Myron is survived by four grandchildren, Todd (Julie) Doncyson of Delaware, Shelly (Michael) Rex of Athens, Anna (Robert) Busby of Redding, Calif., and Stephen (Melissa) Doncyson of Findlay; nine great-grandchildren, Ryan Andrew Rex, Corey Michael Rex, Derek Michael Doncyson, Chara Jane Busby, Joshua Hawkins Busby, Jackson Kent Busby, Justin Gabriel Busby, Matthew Stephen Doncyson and Isabella Helena Doncyson; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Magers Doncyson of Tiffin, and his best buddy and walking companion, his dog, Chaos.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of more than 65 years, Margery; two sons, Michael Kent Doncyson and Stephen Terry Doncyson; and a sister, Lucy Ruth Doncyson.

Myron was a 1933 Columbian High School graduate and a lifelong resident of Tiffin. He was a proud World War II veteran who served in the United States Navy from 1943-1945 as a medic in the Philippines, where he was nicknamed "Pappy" because he was nearly 30 years old when he was drafted.

 


1967 - Diane (Kahler) Hoenshell

Diane M. (Kahler) Hoenshell passed away June 25, 2009, at her home in Palm Coast, Fla.

She was born May 10, 1949, to Robert and Madge (Melroy) Kahler.

Diane grew up in Tiffin, and graduated from Columbian High School in 1967. She moved to Florida in the early 1980s, and worked in the retail business as a manager. Diane worked for Mikasa until they closed in December of 2007. In 2001, she built a home in Palm Coast, Fla., where she lived until her passing. She was a very talented artist and painted a number of unique murals and pictures.

 

 


1974 - Mike McQuistion

Michael "Mike" D. McQuistion, 54, of Tiffin, died Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. He was born to John T. and Helen (Kipps) McQuistion April 27, 1955, in Tiffin. He married Pamela Digby July 19, 1975. She survives in Tiffin.

Mike was a 1974 graduate of Columbian High School. He worked at Excell Wire and Cable for more than 25 years. Most recently, he drove truck for Shultz Oil Company in Tiffin. Mike was a NASCAR fan, and he loved everything about racing, especially go-karts and street stock at local tracks, 37 B. He enjoyed watching demolition derby. Mike will be remembered as having a great sense of humor, liking everyone he met, and having a fun-loving attitude.

 

 


 

 

1931- Lucy (Knestrict) Eggerstedt

EGGERSTEDT, Lucy 95, passed way peacefully at home with her family Aug. 3. She moved to Florida in 1945. Born in Tiffin, OH. She worked in her father's clothing store until she received her nursing degree at Kent State University in Ravena, OH and decided she wanted to travel. She worked as a Social Director on Cruise Lines for 30 years and loved to dance, was in the movie Cocoon, directed by Ron Howard. Lucy and her late husband Fred Eggerstedt will take there last boat ride together to the Gulf of Mexico. Lucy was a 1931 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 

 


1978 - Leo V Depinet

Leo V. Depinet, 51, of Riverview, Fla., died Aug. 3, 2009.

Leo was a 1978 graduate of Columbian High School. He also attended Seneca East High School in Attica. Leo grew up in Republic and was a member of St. Aloysius parish. Leo was a current member of St. Stephens Parish in Valrico, Fla.

 

 


1944 - Doris (Breitwiser) Faulkner

Doris A. Faulkner, 85, formerly of Clyde and more recently of St. Francis in Tiffin, died at St. Francis on Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009. The funeral is at McPherson Cemetery. Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Doris A. Faulkner is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gethro Faulkner, whom she married on August 6, 1948 and he preceeded her on May 8, 1942; a daughter, Linda Faulkner; parents, Emory and Maude (Billman) Breitwiser; and her sister, Evelyn Faulkner, Tiffin.

She graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1944 and had worked at the former Hills Dept. Store in Sandusky.

 


1969 - Benjamin M Medley

Benjamin M. "Ben" Medley, 58, of McCutchenville, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2009, at Mercy Hospital of Tiffin. He was born July 3, 1951, to Gene W. and Helen E. (Wyatt) Medley in Tiffin.

Survivors include his daughter, Mandy (Travis) James of Cambell, Neb.; a sister, Sue Magers of McCutchenville; and two grandchildren, Clint Alan James and Dalton Michael James of Nebraska. Preceding him in death were his parents. Ben was a 1969 graduate of Columbian High School. He was a member of Old Trinity Episcopal Church and was very involved in AA and NA for more than 20 years.

 

 

 


1944 - Anna A (Lynch) Warner

Anna A. Warner, 83, of Fremont, died early Tuesday morning, August 11, 2009 at Bethesda Care Center in Fremont. She was born in Tiffin, OH on September 11, 1925 to the now deceased Bruce and Jessie (Barlekamp) Lynch. She graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School. Anna married Donald E. Warner in 1946 in Greenup, KY, and he passed away in 1986. Anna was a homemaker and loving mother, devoted to caring for her family. She was employed as a Teacher’s Aide for the Lakota School District, the former Jackson Burgoon School. She was a charter member of the Bettsville American Legion.

 

 

 


1986 - Richard Allyn Walters, Jr

Richard Allyn Walters Jr., a former Tiffin resident, died Aug. 10, 2009, due to a sudden illness in Kuwait, Iraq, where he was deployed as an LPN.

A 1986 Columbian High School graduate, Allyn was a 10 year Navy veteran who served in Desert Storm. In 2006, he re-enlisted in the Army, receiving his LPN in March of 2009.

 

 

 


1939 - Mary Louise (Smith) Curns

Mary Lou Curns, 88, of rural Tiffin, died Friday morning, August 21, 2009, at her home. March 31, 1921, she was born in Tiffin to Charles F. and Hazel M. (Turner) Smith. October 3, 1942, she married Alvin H. Curns.

Mary Lou was a 1939 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and attended Old Fort United Methodist Church. She liked to crochet, sew, work puzzles and watch game shows. Mary Lou was a member of Old Fort Flames, and loved outings with her family, as well as spending times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

 


1967 - Larry J Hossler

Larry J. Hossler, 61, a resident of Port Clinton and formerly of Tiffin, died at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Riverview Nursing Home in Oak Harbor.

Larry was the owner/operator of Hossler Maintenance Co. and enjoyed boating. He was a 1967 graduate of Columbian High School. Larry was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during Vietnam.

 

 

 


1942 - Norma Mae (Williams) Schumm

Norma Mae Schumm, 86, formerly of Melmore Street in Tiffin, died at 3:45 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at Seneca House in Tiffin. She was born Oct. 6,1922, in Tiffin, to the late William H. and Mattie V. (Zehring) Williams.

Mrs. Schumm was a 1942 graduate of Columbian High School and she attended the Toledo Beauty Academy. Norma had retired as a beautician, she was an office assistant at First Lutheran Church and a longtime secretary at the Veteran's Administration. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

 

 


1942 - Nytha M (Cutlip) Abrams

Nytha M. Abrams, 84, of Tiffin, died at 7:38 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, 2009, at her residence. Nytha was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Tiffin, to William Lee and Edith May (Emmens) Cutlip. She married James R. Abrams April 24, 1943, in Mississippi, and he died Oct. 30, 2006.

Nytha worked for many retail stores in downtown Tiffin throughout her working life. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the VFW Auxiliary and the "Cooties." Nytha was a 1942 graduate of Columbian High School.

 

 


1977 - Mark W Tyree

Mark W. Tyree, 51, of Tiffin, died Monday morning, Sept. 14, 2009, surrounded by his family, after a 3 1/2-year battle with leukemia.

He was born Aug. 13, 1958, in Tiffin, to Harold W. and Glenna (Hickman) Tyree. Aug. 6, 1988, he married Connie Betz. Mark was a 1977 graduate of Columbian High School, served in the U.S. Army from 1977 to 1979 and attended Washington Street United Methodist Church. He drove truck for many years, working for Hall Trucking in Findlay, and later working at Sarka Sheet Metal from 1990 to 2007 as a fabricator.

 

 


1940 - William M. "Bill" Baltzell

William M. Baltzell Sr., 87, of West Crestview Drive, Tiffin, died at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born March 20, 1922, in Springfield, to the late William T. and Clara A. (McCulloh) Baltzell. Aug. 18, 1943, in New Orleans, La., he married Ruth M. Borer and she died Sept. 17, 1985.

Bill was a 1940 graduate of Columbian High School. He was employed at Lee's Floor Covering for 30 years and then was self-employed for the next 17 years. He served the Tiffin community as 4th Ward City Councilman from 1950 to 1953.

 

 


1938 - Richard W. Hoffmann

Richard W. Hoffmann, 88, of Tiffin, died Thursday morning, Sept. 17, 2009, at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky.

Mr. Hoffmann was born Dec. 2, 1920, in Tiffin, to J. William and Corrine M. (Burger) Hoffmann. He married Dorothy M. Mosier, at St. Mary Catholic Church May 8, 1943.

Mr. Hoffmann was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, graduated from Columbian High School in 1938 and Cleveland College of Embalming in 1940. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 aboard a medical ship in the Pacific Ocean.

 


1961 - William L. Hook

William Lee Hook, II, 66, of Tiffin, died, Saturday, September 19, 2009, at The Arbors of Clyde with his family by his side.

Bill was born August 26, 1943, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Franklin L. and Renee (Ruley) Hook.

William was a 1961 graduate of Tiffin Columbian and also attended Case School of Architecture.

 

 


1971 - Nancy L. (Traunero) Kiser

Nancy Louise (Traunero) Kiser, age 56, of E. CR 50, Tiffin, died at 7:15 pm Sunday, September 20, 2009, at St. Vincent-Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.
She was born November 18, 1952, in Tiffin, to Robert Joseph and Lois Jean (Smith) Traunero. Her mother died March 1, 2008, and her father survives in Tiffin. On June 29, 1974 , she married Jerome Kiser, and he survives.

She was a 1971 graduate of Columbian High School and a 1975 graduate of Notre Dame College. She earned her Masters Degree from Heidelberg University.

 

 


1935 - Paul R. Schorger

Paul Richard Schorger, 92, of Newark, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at the Inn at SharonBrooke.

He was born March 16, 1917, in Tiffin, to LeRoy and Oliea Mae (Knecht) Schorger.

Paul was the owner and operator of Paul’s Potato Chips for many years until his retirement in 1976. Paul was a 1935 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. Paul is survived by his children and their spouses, Twila and Gene Odendahl of Perrysburg, Steve and Sara Schorger of Newark, and Jean Schorger-Brown of Johnstown. In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Catherine Rose (Zimmer) Schorger; his brother, Leo Schorger, and his sister, Edna Shiley.

 


1932 -  Ralph S. Fertig

Ralph S. Fertig, 94, of Tiffin, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2009, at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

He was born Dec. 6, 1914, in Tiffin, to Joshua and Louise (Ballreich) Fertig. June 20, 1937, he married Marie Louise McConnahay, and she died in 1981. On Dec. 31, 1982, he married Chloe (Banks) Dewald.

Ralph was a 1932 graduate of Columbian High School and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. postal carrier for 35 years, retiring in 1984.

 

 

 


1944 - Mary Jane (Smith) Williams

Mary Jane Williams, 83, of Tiffin, died Sunday morning, October 11, 2009 at her residence. On March 28, 1926 in Tiffin, she was born to Harry E. and Gertrude (Brown) Smith. She married Glenn L. Williams on May 12, 1945.

Mary Jane was a founding member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and a 1944 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. She worked at IGA for over 5 years in Tiffin, a member of the Melmore Pinochle Club for many years, Daughter’s of America, and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

 

 

 


1968 - Richard R Noss

Richard R. Noss, 59, of Westerville, passed away unexpectedly at home Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2009, after a brief illness.

Rick was born May 31, 1950, in Chicago, the son of David S. Noss and Elizabeth Van Hise Noss, and was the eldest of three. Rick is survived by his wife, Mary Lightbody, and their three adult children.

Dr. Noss, a 1968 graduate of Columbian High School, held a doctorate in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was a registered professional engineer employed by Stantec Consulting Inc.

 

 


1953 - Richard E Fredritz

Richard E. Fredritz, 73, of Marion, and previously of Tiffin, passed away early in the morning Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Marion General Hospital with his family by his side.

Richard married Patricia J. (Matthews) Fredritz June 25, 1960. Richard was born Nov. 1, 1935, in Tiffin, the son of Carl and Thelma (Ringle) Fredritz. Shortly following graduation from Columbian High School in 1953, Richard enlisted in the Coast Guard, where he served for almost four years. He then worked at Erie Railroad, Marion Power Shovel and Ohio Department of Transportation from where he retired. He also attended Ohio Northern University.

 

 


1960 - Louise F (Mathias) Hoover

Louise F. Hoover, 69, of Tiffin, died Saturday morning, Oct. 24, 2009, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin.

May 23, 1940, she was born to Owen D. and Vernona (Summers) Mathias in Timberville, Va. She married John C. Hoover on Sept. 10, 1960.

Louise was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and a 1960 graduate of Columbian High School. She worked in the deli department at Kroger for many years, and later in the deli department at IGA.

 

 

 


1960 - Mary C (Dildine) Niederkohr

Mary C. Niederkohr, 67, of Luckey, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 1, 2009, at Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon.

She was born Sept. 3, 1942, in Tiffin, to Robert and Helen (Sherman) Dildine. Mary married Keith Niederkohr Oct. 14, 1961, in Tiffin, and he survives. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert; a brother, William Dildine; and a sister, Rebecca Dunn. Mary was a 1960 graduate of Tiffin Columbian.

 

 


1948 - William "Bill" D Fey

William "Bill" D. Fey, 77, passed away Friday, Nov. 20,2009.

Bill was born Dec. 14, 1931, in Tiffin, to Lewis and F. Irma Fey.

He graduated from Columbian High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Florida after his Army duties. Bill worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 30 years, retiring in January 1997. He was on the board of directors of the Fort Worth Transportation Co., known as the "T," for several years.

 

 


1959 - Charles E "Chuck" Frontz Jr.

Charles E. ‘Chuck’ Frontz Jr., 68, of Tiffin, died Tuesday morning, November 24, 2009, at his home.

March 10, 1941, he was born in Tiffin to Charles E. ‘Pete’ and Eva (Lenz) Frontz Sr. On February 23, 1962, he married Lyn Fauber. Survivors include his mother, Eva, his wife, Lyn, both of Tiffin, a son, Chuck (Lori) Frontz of Naples, FL, a daughter, Amy (Steve) Bauerle of Waterville, a sister, Pat Frontz, and six grandchildren, Chas, Leah, Kaylyn, Sarah, Markus and Erik. Preceding him in death is his father. Chuck graduated in 1959 from Columbian High School and worked at Basic Refractories for over 8 years.

W. James "Jim" Sessions died Thursday, November 19, 2009 in Safety Harbor, Florida after an illness of several years. Jim was a 1959 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 


1969 - Jerry L Burgderfer

Jerry L. Burgderfer, 58, of Tiffin, died Friday, December 4, 2009 as a result of an airplane accident.

Jerry was born May 3, 1951, in Tiffin, to the late Charles Burgderfer and Vera (Bartlebaugh) Burgderfer who survives. He married Kathy (Murphy) at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on May 29, 1971 and she survives. Jerry was a 1969 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 


1945 - Oren A Heyman, Jr

Oren A. Heyman Jr., 82, of Tiffin, died at 5:18 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Blanchard Valley Medical Center, Findlay.

Oren was born Oct. 29, 1927, in Seneca County, to Oren Sr. and Mary Hazel (Danback) Heyman. He married Martha Reinhart at St. Nicholas Catholic Church Oct. 28, 1961, in Frenchtown, and she survives. Oren was a 1945 graduate of Columbian High School and a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II.

 

 

 


1956 - Rolla J Ludwig

Rolla Joseph Ludwig, 72, of Summit Street, Fostoria, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009, at St. Catherine Care Center in Fostoria.

Rolla was born Oct. 13, 1937, in Tiffin, to Harold and Gertrude (Theis) Ludwig. He married Patricia Rupert Oct. 27, 1979, in Fostoria, and she survives.

Rolla was a 1956 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 


1965 - Robert A Bernard Jr

Robert A. Bernard Jr., 62, of Tiffin, died Wednesday morning, December 9, 2009, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

On May 30, 1947, he was born in Tiffin, to the late Robert A. Sr. and Evelyn (Hossler) Bernard. On January 22, 1977, he married Judi Lorentz in Tiffin.

Bob was a 1965 graduate of Columbian High School and attended The Ohio State University.

 


1959 - Barbara Ann (Ditslear) Barnes

Barbara Ann Barnes, 68, died Nov. 30, 2009, at Avow Hospice House in Naples, Fla., after seven years battling cancer.

Barbara was preceded in death last year by her husband of 35 years, Walter N. Barnes, Jr.

She is survived by her three children, Kent (Rhonda) Margraf, Tracey Wilbourn and Todd (Debbie) Margraf; three step-children, Walter N. Barnes III, Bradley Barnes and Mark (Cassie) Barnes; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by her mother, Doris Wertz; her brothers and sisters, Dick (Virginia) Ditslear, Jack Ditslear, Ron (Sheila) Ditslear, Judy (Dick) Pratt, Valerie (Ed) Beitel, Mike (Charlene) Ditslear, Russell (Sandy) Wertz, Gene Wertz, Sara (Dennis) Welly and Clare Wertz.

Barbara was born in Tiffin and spent most of her life in Ohio. Barbara graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1959. She graduated with an accounting degree from Wright State University in Dayton, while working several jobs and raising a family. She married Walt in 1973. Barbara and Walt fulfilled their dream and moved to Naples, Fla., full time in 2000.

 

 


1947 - Marjorie J (Crouse) Baugher

Surrounded by her family, Marjorie Joyce Baugher, age 80, a Tiffin native and recently of Curtis, MI, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, December 15, 2009.

She was born April 6, 1929 in Tiffin, the first child of the late L.C. and Thelma (Detterman) Crouse. The Detterman family goes back several generations in Seneca County. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Richard Baugher, son Glenn Baugher, and brother Bernard Crouse. She leaves behind loving daughters Kathy (Robert) Torvick of Santa Rosa, CA., Lorene (Gary) Bowman of Curtis, MI, and loving son Brian (Tammy) Baugher of San Mateo, CA, adoring step-granddaughter Avery, loving sister-in-law Mary Crouse of Maumee, OH., nieces and nephews, and good friend Dorothy Bowman of Fostoria and Curtis, MI.

A 1947 graduate of Columbian High School, Marge was a loving homemaker and worked at Gold Bond Furniture and Canteen as a secretary. She was member of St. John’s United Church of Christ.

 

 


1969 - Donna Jean (Margraf) Bradley

Donna Jean Bradley, 59, of Tiffin, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 29, 2009, while taking care of her mother. She was born Oct. 2, 1950, in Tiffin, the daughter of Burton and Betty (Miller) Margraf. She married Neil Bradley Jan. 3, 1992, and he survives.

Donna was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1969. She graduated from the University of Toledo in 1972 with a bachelor's of education degree, from Tiffin University in 1983 and 1984 and she earned her master's of education from Bowling Green State University in 1988. Donna continued her education throughout the years, receiving a Lay School Certificate from Northwest Ohio Association, U.C.C. Her first service as Lay Minister was last Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at St. John's United Church of Christ.

 

 


1978 - Tami Ruth (Kiesel) Ferstler

Tami Ruth Ferstler, 50, of Tiffin, was embraced into the loving arms of our Heavenly Father at 10 a.m. Dec. 25, 2009, at her home. Tami was continuously surrounded by her family and friends.

Tami graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1978 and worked for Seneca Medical (and its prior companies) for the past 28 years. She treasured her co-workers as they shared their lives. She described them as dedicated and loyal friends whom she loved.

 

 


1953 - John Andrew Reinbolt

John Andrew Reinbolt, 74, of Tiffin, died at 11:57 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at his residence.

John was born July 1, 1935, in Tiffin, to the late Elmer Paul and Francis Rose (Napora) Reinbolt. He married Beverly Hepler June 14, 1956, in Tiffin, and she preceded him in death.

John retired from American Standard as a Kiln Foreman for 40 years. He was a 1953 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and was a United States Army Veteran.

 

 


1949 - Robin T Turner

Robin T. Turner, age 78, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Riverside Hospital. Robin was a former resident of Tiffin and Marion, Ohio, current resident of Columbus, a U.S. Navy Korean War Veteran, and an active member of many community groups including, Elks, Masons, Kiwanis, and V.F.W. He was also a former Ohio State Representative and Ohio State Senator, and a retiree from NorthAmerican Coal. Robin was a 1949 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 


1982 - Catherine A Bame

Catherine Alice Bame, 45, of Findlay, died very unexpectedly at 10:56 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2010, at her residence.

Catherine was born July 4, 1964, in Tiffin, to Paul Christian Bame of Kokomo, Ind., and Ann E. (Gilsdorf) Kovalevsky of Tiffin.

Catherine worked as a manager for Speedway in Findlay, and previously worked at the University of Findlay. She was an avid reader, loved music, and enjoyed riding her bike and hiking. Catherine was named a National Merit Semi-Finalist while at Tiffin Columbian, where she graduated in the class of 1982. She later graduated from the University of Findlay Summa Cum Laude, and was in the process of obtaining her MBA at the University of Findlay.

 

 


1941 - Esther June Flack Jarvi

Esther June Flack Jarvi, 86, of Findlay, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Findlay.

She was born in 1923, in Sandusky County, to S. Cletus and Hazel (Solomon) Flack. She married William E. Jarvi Dec. 9, 1945, in Tiffin, and he preceded her in death April 17, 2004.

Esther was a 1941 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and Tiffin University

 

 


1991 - Jody Anne Cranmore

Jody Anne Cranmore, 36, of Tiffin, died at 7:38 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at the Cleveland Clinic

Jody was born March 24, 1973, in West Palm Beach, Fla., to Dan and Candice (Johnson) Cranmore who survive in Tiffin.

Jody worked at Staples in Tiffin since they opened. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Tiffin and was involved with the Hope on Horseback, 4-H, dog training and grooming, and enjoyed fishing with her daughter, Morgan and gardening with her father, Dan. Jody was also a 1991 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 


1963 - Raymond R Brown

Raymond R. Brown, 64, of Tiffin, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at St. Francis Home in Tiffin. He was born Oct. 9, 1945, in Toledo, to the late Merlin O. and Mildred (Vandenburg) Brown. He married Karin Ehren May 15, 1971, in Memmingen, Germany.

Ray graduated from Columbian High School in 1963 and Tiffin University in 1967. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and Kiwanis. He was a former member of Tiffin Boy Rangers, Tiffin Jaycees, Knights of Columbus 608, Tiffin Parks and Recreation, Optimist Club and Ohio Hardware Association.

 

 

 


1975 - Dennis Lynn Gannon

Dennis L. Gannon, 54, of Tiffin, died at 5:25 a.m., Friday, February 26, 2010, at his residence.

Dennis was born Jan. 6, 1956, in Columbus. He married Sandra (Faber) in Tiffin and they later divorced. Survivors include his parents, Bob and Donna (Schwabel) Gannon; his son, Shawn (Annette) Gannon of Toledo; his daughter, Heather Taylor of Fostoria; three grandchildren; and a sister, Connie (David) Shutt of Tiffin. In Dennis' earlier years, he was employed at the Cactus Steak House in Tiffin and Fry Foods. He always enjoyed listening to music on the radio, playing the harmonica, star gazing and camping. Dennis was a 1975 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 


1943 - Dale E Wilkinson

Dale E. Wilkinson, 84, of Waynesboro, Ga., died Friday, March 12, 2010, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Ga. He was born Aug. 3, 1925, in Tiffin, to Leonard and Sarah (Lawrence) Wilkinson.

He is survived by his wife, Lucinda (Sherman) Wilkinson; three children, Gary E. (Mary) Wilkinson of Columbus, Mae (Nick) Garber of Waynesboro, Ga., and April (Rick) Weaver of Erie, Pa.; four grandchildren, Nathan (Meghan Wills) Wilkinson, Sarah (Matt) Kaminski, Megan Weaver and Dakota Dale Garber; and many nieces and nephews.

Dale was a 1943 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Dale is best known for his life-long dedication to the quarter horse profession and is considered, "The Father of Modern Reining."

 

 


1946 - Emma M (Webster) Stewart

Emma M. Stewart, 80, of Strongsville and formerly of Tiffin, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at Altenheim Nursing Home in Strongsville.

Emma was born Mary 28, 1929, in Seneca County, to Jay and Nina (Heyman) Webster. She first married Donald J. Border, and he preceded her in death Feb. 18, 1984. She later married Ralph Stewart, who preceded her in death Nov. 3, 2003. Emma was a homemaker and a member of the St. Paul's. She was a 1946 graduate of Columbian.

 

 


1935 - Elsie Miriam Dawson Gillig

Elsie Miriam Dawson Gillig, 92 of Findlay and formerly of Tiffin, died at 3:10 a.m., Friday, March 25, 2010 at the Taylor House in Findlay. Arrangements are pending at the Engle-Shook Funeral Home in Tiffin.

Elsie was a 1935 graduate of Tiffin Columbian.

 

 

 


1952  - Jeanne M (Peer) Brickner

Jeanne M. Brickner, 75, of Tiffin passed away Saturday afternoon, March 27, 2010 at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.

On January 30, 1935 in Tiffin, she was born to Virgil and Faun (Troup) Peer. She married Adam J. Brickner on August 2, 1952.

Jeanne was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and a 1952 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 

 


 

1954 - Mary Jane (Peck) Nighswander

Mary Jane Nighswander, 73, of Tiffin, died at 1:18 a.m., Sunday, March 29, 2010 at the Tiffin Mercy Hospital.

Mary was born September 4, 1936, in Republic, to the late Harold Sr. and Hazel (Renninger) Peck. She married Allen Nighswander in Tiffin on June 12, 1954 and he survives in Tiffin. She was a 1954 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and attended Bowling Green State University for two years.

 

 

 


1929 - Margaret C (Wetzel) Estep

Margaret C. Estep, 99, of Tiffin, died at 11:20 p.m. Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Mercy Tiffin Hospital.

Margaret was born Feb. 14, 1911, in McCutchenville, to the late Ernest A. and Myrtle (Grubel) Wetzel. She married Wade Louis Estep June 30, 1940, at First Lutheran Church, and he preceded her in death Jan. 30, 1995.

Survivors include children, Dr. Ernest R. (Bonnie Cline) Estep of Akron, Wade L. (Sandy) Estep of Westerville, Bernice (William) Lytle of Williamsburg, Ohio, and Barbara (Don) Hiser of Covington, Ohio. Margaret also is survived by five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth R. Wetzel of Tiffin; three nephews; two close neighbor families, the Halls and the Schanks; and her Comfort Keeper friends.

Margaret was a 1929 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and graduated in 1933 from Heidelberg College with magna cum laude honors.

 

 


1968 - Steven B Kear

Steven B. Kear, 60, of Tiffin, died at 3:08 p.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010 at the Tiffin Mercy Hospital.

Steven was born in Tiffin, on October 23, 1949 to the late Ralph O. and Naomi J. (Birkmip) Kear.

Survivors include his children, Seth Kear of Ypsilanti, MI and Sarah (Brad) Kieff of Stanton, MI, two, brothers, Edward (Donna) Kear of Texas and Thomas Kear of Tiffin. Steven is also survived by many cousins.

Steven enjoyed the outdoors, muzzle loading, fishing, Ohio State Football, the Detroit Tigers and was involved with the Heritage Village at the park. He was a 1968 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 


1944 - Carol M (Bishop) Bowers

Carol M. Bowers, 83, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday evening, April 25, 2010, at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin. She was born Aug. 19, 1926, in Tiffin, to Warren C. and Lelia Lolita (Biehler) Bishop. She married Wade Bowers April 18, 1948.

Survivors include two sons, Randy M. Bowers and Scott A. (Annalisa) Bowers of Tiffin; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Wade; and a sister, Betty.

Carol was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ and a 1944 graduate of Columbian High School. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing bridge, her cats and attending her grandchildren's sporting events.

 

 


1941 - Agnes A (Goshe) Pugh

AGNES AGATHA PUGH, age 87 of Tiffin, Ohio passed away Wednesday April 28. She was born March 5, 1923 to Isabelle and Francis R. Goshe at Berwick, Ohio. Both parents are deceased. Agnes married Robert Pugh (Deceased) on May 18, 1946 and is survived by three sons; William R. (Ronnie) Pugh of Byron, Georgia, Richard C. (Sheila) Pugh of Grove City, Ohio and Jere S. Pugh of Traverse City, Michigan.

Agnes is a graduate of Columbian High School Class of 1941. In earlier years she was an office clerk for the former Pure Milk and Dairy Company. Later, she was employed more than 22 years at the Ohio Bureau of Employment Services in the Tiffin and Fostoria offices.

 


1935 - Lucy Ann (Bennehoff) Emerson

Lucy Ann Emerson, 92, of Tiffin, died at 2:40 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at Autumnwood Care Center in Tiffin.

Lucy was born July 26, 1917, in Tiffin, to the late Vinton A. and Edna (Gibson) Bennehoff. She first married William D. Fleet and he preceded her in death and she later married William Roy Emerson and he, too, preceded her in death.

Lucy was a teacher for Hopewell-Loudon and Tiffin Columbian schools. She was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ and a member of the Dolley Todd Madison Chapter DAR, Robert Scothorn Chapter Colonial Dames 17thCentury, the Seneca County Retired Teachers, the Soroptimist Club, the Tiffin Women's Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. Lucy was a 1935 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and a 1939 graduate of Heidelberg College.

 

 


1955 - Dr. David P Harkins

Dr. David P. Harkins, 72, of Webster Groves, Mo., passed away Friday, April 30, 2010. He was born June 14, 1937, in Bellevue, Pa., to the Rev. Ira and Mildred Harkins.

He is survived by his five children, Brian (Martha), Paul (Deb), Eric, Mark (Christi) and Jill (Eric); nine grandchildren, Alan, Marisa, Lindsay, Emily, Joshua, Sofia and Elijah Harkins and Abigail and Noah Goodman; two sisters, Janet (Jim) Ferner and Lois Paden; and numerous nieces, nephews and family friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Sharon; and a sister, Dolores Harkins. Dave graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1955 and in 1959 from Heidelberg College.

 

 


1939 - Helen L (Angus) Stancel

Helen Laura Stancel, 89, of Waterville and formerly of Tiffin, died at 3:05 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2010 at her residence.

Helen was born on March 19, 1921, in Tiffin, to the late James Elmer and Lois A. (Brandenburg) Angus. She married Milan (Riley) Stancel in Tiffin on September 12, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 2005. She was a 1939 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and Tiffin University.

 

 

 


1957 - Eugene T Miller

Eugene T. ‘Bucky’ Miller, 72, of Tiffin, died Sunday evening, May 23, 2010, at his home.

On January 19, 1938, he was born in Canton to Marley and Marie (Kapper) Miller.

Bucky was a 1957 graduate of Columbian High School.

 


1978 - Robin C (Masella) Fox

Robin C. Fox, 50, of Tiffin, died at 4:12 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2010, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

Robin was born July 7, 1959, in Beeville, Texas, to the late James and Sharon (Walker) Masella. She married Jason Fox May 24, 1991, in Tiffin, and he survives in Tiffin. Robin worked as a caregiver at Seneca House in Tiffin. She loved her animals, cooking, working outside with her flowers and most of all, spending time with her family. Robin was a 1978 graduate of Columbian High School.

 

 


1959 -  Ernest Lee Reed II

Ernest L. “Lee” Reed II, 69, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, May 30, 2010 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo.

On July 7, 1940 in Piqua, OH; he was born to Ernest L. and Gracia (Earl) Reed. He married Janet McConnell on December 24, 1961.

Ernest was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a 1959 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1960 and served 4 years aboard the USS Purdy (DD-734).

 

 

 

 


1968 - Eugene F Wertz

Eugene F. "Gene" Wertz, 60, of Dalton, passed away Friday morning, May 28, 2010, at Wooster Community Hospital, following a brief illness. He was born Jan. 27, 1950, in Tiffin, to George R. and Doris L. (Montz) Wertz and had been a Wayne County resident for most of his life.

He is survived by a daughter, Jessica (Ryan) Collins of Wooster; brothers and sisters, Dick (Ginny) Ditslear of Tiffin, Jack Ditslear of Califonia, Ron (Sheila) Ditslear of Florida, Judy (Dick) Pratt of Wooster, Val (Ed) Beitel of Michigan, Mike (Charlene) Ditslear of Tiffin, Russ (Sandy) Wertz of Missouri, and Sara (Denny) Welly and Clare Wertz, both of Tiffin.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Barbara Barnes. Gene was a 1968 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School.

 

 


1942 - Margaret A (Ward) Riddle

Margaret A. Riddle, 85, of Williamsburg, VA and formerly of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday morning, June 1, 2010 at Riverside Hospital in Newport News, VA.

Margaret was 1 1942 graduate of Tiffin Columbian.

1944 - Lois C (Van Camp) Walland

Lois C. Walland, 84, of Tiffin, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at her home.

On April 25, 1926 in Tiffin she was born to Charles R. and Ethel C. (Borer) Van Camp. She married William Walland on April 4, 1948 in St. Mary Catholic Church.

Lois was a 1944 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She worked as a payroll clerk for General Electric, in the Admitting Office at Mercy Hospital for 12 years and as a cafeteria worker at Krout School for 12 years. She enjoyed watching and taking care of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

 


1942 - Mary F (Weinig) Felton

Mary F. Felton, 85, of Gross Street, Tiffin, died at 3:13 p.m. Sunday, June 6, 2010, at her residence. Mary was born Dec. 19, 1924, in Tiffin, to Louis R. and Bertha (Miller) Weinig. She married William C. Felton Oct. 20, 1951, in Tiffin, and he preceded her in death May 13, 2005.

Mary graduated in 1942 from Columbian High School and then went on to earn her B.B.A. from Heidelberg College in 1946. Mary was a loving wife and mother. She was a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Penthouse Club, Heidelberg Fellows and she played in various bridge clubs over the years.

 

 


1965 - Terry D Aller

He was born July 15, 1947, in New Castle, Ind., to Clarence and Betty Jean (Turner) Aller.

Survivors include a son, Terry Aller Jr. of Upper Sandusky; five daughters, Tami Kirian of Tampa, Fla., Angela Aller of Tiffin, Trisha (Ryan) Fair of Bowling Green, Tara (Chris) Nickel-Venn of Orlando, Fla., and Amanda Aller of Upper Sandusky; a brother, Brad (Kathy) Aller of Elgin, S.C.; two sisters, Betsy (Gary) Hancock of Fostoria and Stacy (Scott) Kiesel of New Riegel; 11 grandchildren, Adam, Abby, Aubrey, Ronald, Paige, Kaleb, Kaylee, Maria, Alexis, Brandon and Kaylee; and two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Carson.

Preceding him in death, along with his parents, was a brother, Greg Aller.

Terry was a 1965 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and attended First Lutheran Church.

 


1954 - Bruce M Reiter

Bruce M. Reiter, 73, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday morning, June 19, 2010 at Tiffin Mercy Hospital.

On August 13, 1936 in rural Tiffin, he was born to Harold and Angeline (Spino) Reiter. He married Rebecca Buskirk on October 11, 1958 at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.

Bruce was a 1954 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. He worked as a U.S. Postal Carrier for over 36 years retiring in 1994.

 

 

 


1961 - Larry H Bradley

Larry H. Bradley, 67, died Sunday, June 20, 2010. He is survived by his companion of 23 years, Kathleen (nee Gannon); son Steven (Renee) Bradley; daughter Elizabeth Hearn; stepchildren Maureen L. (Duane) Enderby, Dennis M. (Kelley) Grealis II, Kevin (Cathy) Grealis; 10 grandchildren; and five sisters, Katy Moffett, Luella Thorne, Loretta (Lloyd) Straub, Clara (Robert) Hartman and Patsy Wood. Larry was a 1961 graduate of Tiffin Columbian.

 


1944 - Charles "Chick" Fowler

Charles "Chick" Fowler, 84, of Tiffin, passed away Saturday morning, July 10, 2010, at St. Francis Home in Tiffin.

He was born June 4, 1926, in Tiffin, to Laurel "Slim" and Della (Sours) Fowler. He married Dorothy Gilliland Feb. 14, 1948. Chick was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Tiffin where he served as Deacon, Elder, past president of church council, several years as church treasurer, and was a founding member of the Trinity Twosomes and Keenagers. He graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1944 and from Tiffin University in 1946. He started his career in 1946 with Sterling Grinding Wheel Co. and ITT Abrasive Products.

 

 

 


1936 - Betty Lou (Platt) Shumway

Betty Lou (Platt) Shumway, born May 1, 1918, in Tiffin, passed away peacefully Monday, July 12, 2010, in Youngtown, Ariz.

Her husbands, Kermit Long of Bellevue and Stanley Shumway of Tiffin, and her brother, Nevin James Platt of Tiffin, preceded her in death.

Betty Lou graduated from Tiffin Columbian High School in 1936 and then attended Bowling Green State University, where she held various class offices and was elected to Pi Kappa Delta, the National Forensic Fraternity.

 

 

 


1975 - Valerie J (Smith) Burger

Valerie Jean Burger, 53 of Tiffin passed away Saturday evening, July24, 2010 in the Emergency Room at Tiffin Mercy Hospital.

On February 27, 1957 in Tiffin, she was born to Robert and Dorothy (Albert) Smith. She married Robert Joseph Burger on June 1, 1984 in St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Val was a 1975 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and a 1977 graduate of Terra Community College and worked for AEP in Fremont, Findlay and Tiffin for over 30 years. She enjoyed attending flea markets and antique shows with her husband and was very talented; making crafts and dolls and selling them in stores in North Carolina.

 

 


1979 - Peggy A. (Fisher) Lucius

Peggy A. Lucius, 49, of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, July 25, 2010, at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

She was born June 18, 1961, in Lake Forest, Ill., to Richard L. and Nancy (Metzger) Fisher. She married Ken Gooding and they later divorced. She then married David Lucius Feb. 2, 2002.

Peggy was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a 1979 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and worked in activities at Tiffin Developmental Center for over 15 years. She volunteered for Relay for Life, first grade reading program at Washington School, and at her childrens' activities at St. Joseph. Peggy coached volleyball for many years for the CYO program at St. Joseph, Mohawk schools, Old Fort schools and was a swim instructor, trampoline instructor, life guard and swim coach at the YMCA. She enjoyed spending time with her family in South Padre Island, TX. Peggy was very involved with her daughters; she would tell everyone "the greatest job is being a mother".

 

 


1942 - Beulah A. (Marsh) Jumper

Beulah A. Jumper, 86 of Tiffin, passed away Sunday morning, July 25, 2010 at Volunteers of America Autumnwood Care Center.

On May 13, 1924 in Tiffin, she was born to Ralph E. and Carrie E. (Slone) Marsh. She married Raymond W. Jumper Sr. on October 19, 1944 in the First Christian Church in Tiffin.

Beulah was a member of First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ and a 1942 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School. She was active in the Y Wives, Daughters of America, Christian Women Fellowship and worked as a clerk at Harold’s Dept. Store.

 


1944 - Donald W Albert

Donald William Albert, 83, passed away Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, in Del Rio, Texas.

He was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Tiffin. Don is survived by two sons, Donald W. Albert Jr. of San Antonio, Texas and Jerry L. Albert of Kyle, Texas; granddaughter, Ginger Eileen Casas and husband Jimmy of San Antonio, Texas; great-granddaughter, Mia Idali Casas; brother, Henry Albert and sister, Dorothy Smith, both of Tiffin; and numerous nieces and nephews. Donald was a 1944 graduate of Tiffin Columbian.
